Back in the 80’s, when I was a glorious 19/20-year-old college dropout/runway model, Mommi kept one of my portfolio pics on her desk at work. She frequently asked me to visit for lunch. It seems there was this guy in marketing who kept asking her for an introduction. She said he was tall and kinda cute and had a great personality. Of course, I always refused, even to the point of saying there’s no way in HELL I’d ever date a guy from marketing. I mean why? I was 19 and hot, and since he was at the GM office in Naperville and asking old ladies to hook him up, what could I possibly want with the likes of him.
Well…some months later, Mommi is in front of the TV screaming for me to come to look. When I asked why she didn’t tell me who it was, her response: “I did tell you his name was Mike! I just didn’t remember his last name.” He was at GM working out the details of his commercials for the Chicagoland Chevy Dealers Association.
So…what did I learn? And do you think I really learned it? Of course not! I still never listened to my mother.
